چکیده

produced in man by inoculation of cultures of Leishmania tropica. Cutaneous inoculation of Leishmania donovani from spleen puncture material from a case of kala-azar, however, is reported to have ' apparently produced kala-azar in a man' but on two occasions accidental inoculation of spleen puncture material from cases of kala-azar was without any effect (Napier, 1927). Recently, Terry et al. (1950) have reported'a case of laboratory infection with Leishmania donovani, probably caused by the bite of leishmania infected animals. The lesions produced were swelling of a finger and regional epitrochlear and axillary adenopathy and there was no evidence of systemic infection. The lesions disappeared following antimony therapy. In this paper we present the brief notes of a case in which intradermal injection of leptomonads from a culture of Leishmania donovani was followed by the development of cutaneous nodules at the sites of inoculation.

Identification and Characterization of Leishmania spp. in Impreession Smears of Patients with Cutaneous Leishmaniasis

Background: Monoclonal antibodies have been employed extensively for the identification of Leishmania species, development of diagnostic tests and in the characterization of defined leishmanial antigens. Objectives: Identification and characterization of  Leishmania spp. directly from cutaneous lesions of infected individuals. Methods: An immunoperoxidase test (Avidin-Biotin technique) using mo...

Leishmania-induced cellular recruitment during the early inflammatory response: modulation of proinflammatory mediators.

This study investigated whether Leishmania species, the etiologic agent of cutaneous (Leishmania major) and visceral (Leishmania donovani) leishmaniasis, could differentially elicit early inflammatory events in vivo correlating with the subsequent development of their reciprocal pathogenesis. By use of the murine air pouch system, injection of Leishmania led to a rapid and transient accumulatio...

Nanogold for the treatment of zoonotic cutaneous leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania major (MRHO/IR/75/ER): An animal trial with methanol extract of Eucalyptus camaldulensis

This experimental study was conducted to assess of effectiveness of two nanogold concentrations against cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) caused by Iranian strain of Leishmania major in BALB/c mice model. Cutaneous lesions were experimentally induced by inoculation with Iranian Leishmania major promastigotes (MRHO/IR/75/ER) in 61 BALB/c mice. The infected mice were enrolled to four groups: intervent...
